Fiber Art: Dyeing Shibori apron, shirts

  • Ended
  • 45 US dollars
  • West Wilson Street

Service Description

The picture shows scarves I dyed with Shibori techniques for Casa Grande Art Association's Holiday Market last year. But for this workshop we will be dyeing an apron and up to 2 shirts instead. We'll use fiber reactive dyes which dye cotton with permanent, vibrant colors. There are many Shibori techniques and we will try out my favorite called Itajime Shibori. It's is a technique where you fold a piece of fabric many times before clamping it with wood. The area that's not covered by the wood dyes while the rest remains undyed. There are always lots of surprises which adds to the fun. Please bring at least one other item that is 100% cotton to dye - ideas might be a cloth napkin, t-shirt (Joann's and Michael's has them), small tablecloth, etc. Items should be a solid color and can be white, or any bright or light color (no navy or dark purple or black for example).
