Papermaking: Textured Sheets

Sept 17, 1-4 Recycle used paper into unique, textured sheets.

  • Ended
  • 40 US dollars
  • West Wilson Street

Service Description

We'll learn to transform discarded paper into paper pulp using a blender. We'll add plant fibers for texture and character, and make new sheets of paper from it. This project is full of surprises as each sheet is unique. You will make several sheets of 5”x7” textured paper. The finished papers will be art all by themselves, or use them in projects of your own - collage, greeting cards, bookmarks, etc. Or save them for a future Casita class where we will incorporate them! Wear an apron or paint shirt. Most of the mess is from water being pressed out of new sheets, but sometimes dyes from the colored papers can stain. Everything is included in this class, but you are welcome to bring additional papers and/or fibers. Things to look for around the house: Paper - Any kind: Newspaper, comic books, magazines, office paper, envelopes, colored paper, old bills, metallic gum wrappers… Fibers - Any plant material that is now dried –spices (old and outdated works great!), leaf tea, dried flowers or leaves from your yard, sawdust, coconut fiber, seeds, and also thread or string of any kind. (If bringing thread, I'll show you how to get lots of 1" pieces from a spool quickly). Adults (age 16+) No papermaking experience necessary. Fun for all levels of artists and crafters.
