In this beginner-friendly class, you will create four fused-glass coasters, each measuring 4” x 4”, using the fused-glass technique. The coasters are made with two layers of COE 90 glass and are a great introduction to working with glass.
You are encouraged to think about your design before class. Feel free to bring photos, sketches, stencils, or other reference materials to inspire your project. During the class, Erin will demonstrate how to create abstract patterns, flowers, and simple images using glass pieces.
You will learn how to prepare glass and cut it into shapes, then assemble your design by layering glass pieces on top of a base sheet of glass. Erin will guide you through using tools such as a glass cutter, strip cutter, and small hand tools to help shape your design.
A variety of glass materials and colors will be available, including frit (small pieces of glass), vitrigraph stringers (thin glass strands pulled from Erin’s studio kiln), and larger glass pieces to incorporate into your designs.
After class, Erin will take your finished pieces and fire them in the kiln. The coasters will be full fused, which means they will come out of the kiln smooth and glossy. Small protective bumpers will be added to the corners before pickup to help protect surfaces in your home.
Finished coasters will be available for pickup at Casita Workshop approximately one week after the class. A pickup time will be discussed during the class.
Materials
Basic materials are included with the class. Optional materials such as dichroic glass or specialty pre-cut glass shapes may be purchased for an additional cost from our retail store.
If you would like to use a specific pre-cut glass shape, please order it in advance through Erin’s website so it can be ready for class:

Safety
Working with glass requires attention to safety. Erin will review basic glass safety and handling at the beginning of the class. Participants will be required to wear safety glasses during the class, which are provided.
(During class, we will discuss a pick-up time for your art – usually 7-10 days after the class).
