Join us in this workshop where you'll transfer rust from metal objects to fabrics. Fabric ideas to bring from home: T-shirt, blouse, table runner, tablecloth, cloth napkins, placemat, totebag, apron, fabric for projects, etc. The rust will show up best on light or medium colored fabrics. You can rust-dye more than one if you'd like. Bring 1 - 4 pieces of fabric. It will depend on the size of the fabrics you use.

All fabric pieces need to be 100% cotton, linen or fabric made from any other cellulosic (plant). Fabric can be of any color - solid or with a pattern. There is a chance that rust can corrode a hole in the fabric (if left on too long), so don't bring anything that is super special to you. (We will try not to let that happen!) If your fabric is new, it should be washed first.

Once the rust has transferred, it is important to remove the rusty objects soon, (so it won't make a hole). We don't know when exactly it will transfer - it could take 1-4 days, depending on the temperature and humidity. On the second day, uou will come in and see if the rust has transferred enough. If so, you will go on to the second steps and take your finished fabrics home. If the fabrics aren't ready, I will check them each day and contact you when they are ready. If you aren't available to come in that day, Susan and/or I will do the second steps and make arrangements to get your finished fabrics to you.

Rusty objects: I have enough rusty items for everyone to use but we can always use more. Feel free to bring any that you have lying around! Check your garage, shed for anything rusty or for pieces of steel that haven't rusted yet (nails, washers, decorative items, sheet metal if in small pieces...) The process does corrode the metal a little bit, so don't bring anything that is special to you.

Let Susan (at church) or Patti (Casita Workshop) know if you have any questions.
