These ceramic/clay classes are geared for home schoolers age 10-17. Classes are held on weekdays. This is a handbuilding class; we will not be using a pottery wheel. No experience is needed.

Each session includes two classes. The first class of each session will be spent learning about clay and forming it into shapes using a variety of techniques. Pieces will be left there to dry for several days and then fired in our kiln. The second class will be spent adding color with glazes. The pieces will be fired again a day or two later.

You'll learn:

- Basic ways to form clay with slab, coil and pinch techniques.

- How to add textures to your clay pieces while forming

- How to attach two pieces of clay together correctly, so that they won’t pop apart while drying.

- Why some pieces explode in the kiln and how to lessen the chance of that happening to any of your pieces.

- To load and unload your pieces in the kiln

You can take one session or both sessions. The classes are the same, but those who have already taken session 1 can skip the lessons and go on to making a variety of other things on their own (with guidance).
