Join Erin for a fun, beginner-friendly introduction to fused glass! In this class, you’ll create beautiful glass suncatchers that will brighten any window, wall, or display space—and they make wonderful handmade gifts.
During class, you will design and assemble two 6” x 6” suncatchers. If you’d like, you can divide your pieces into smaller designs. Each project starts with a clear glass base, and you’ll layer colorful glass on top to bring your design to life.
You’re welcome to create any design you like—from flowers to abstract patterns. Erin will demonstrate techniques for building designs using small glass pieces and embellishments.
You’ll learn how to cut and prepare glass, build your design, and gain a basic understanding of how glass fuses in the kiln. Safety will also be covered, and safety glasses (provided) are required during class.
All materials are included, including frit (crushed glass), vitrigraph stringers (hand-pulled by Erin), and a variety of transparent glass.
Optional: You may add pre-cut glass shapes to your design. These are available for purchase at glassmaniastudios.com, and students receive a 15% discount for the class. You will be sent a coupon after you sign up for the class.
If you would like specific shapes, please place your order at least 5 days before class so they are ready for you. A limited selection of best-selling shapes will be available for purchase during class, but availability is not guaranteed—please check ahead of time if there are particular shapes you would like to use.
After class, Erin will fire your pieces in the kiln, then drill and finish them for hanging. You can choose between chain or coated wire for display. Your finished suncatchers will be ready for pickup after firing.
A pick-up time for projects will be determined in class, usually 7-10 days after class.
